Grab a Seat at the Table!

After years of collecting cookbooks, hosting dozens of dinner parties, scouring Pinterest for recipes I'll "definitely make someday", and making sure my phone ate first, Tall Girl Short Bread finally has a home.

I'm so happy you're here.

If we've met before, welcome back. If this is our first introduction - Hi! I'm Emily, and I’m a tall girl who makes shortbread, among many, many, many other things.

This feels a little surreal, as the name and concept started as a joke at a rooftop party, where I brought a platter of shortbread cookies and folks aptly observed that I was a tall girl. And now, we have this website! It's designed to be a place to celebrate gathering, trying new things, getting creative in the kitchen, and finding joy in making something with your own hands.

Around here you'll find a little bit of everything:

  • sweet treats that make you volunteer to bring dessert (or be volun-told to bring),

  • savory meals you can whip out to impress impromptu guests,

  • refreshing drinks for happy hour (or a random Wednesday),

  • hosting ideas for everything from dinner parties to backyard hangs,

  • seasonal inspiration,

  • and plenty of restaurant recommendations because I LOVE to try new food.

I'm not a professionally trained chef and, honestly, I think that's part of the fun. I'm someone who genuinely loves to cook, bake, host, and feed the people I care about. Some recipes are family favorites, some are inspired by local restaurants, some are happy accidents, and many have gone through several rounds in my own little "test kitchen" before making their way here.

One thing you'll notice is that I care just as much about why we cook as what we cook. A great recipe is wonderful, but the memories made around it? That's the real good stuff.

Whether you're planning a holiday dinner, looking for a fun weeknight meal, baking cookies just because, or searching for the perfect cocktail to pair with a summer evening, I hope this becomes a place you come back to again and again.

And because I can never leave well enough alone, this site will continue to grow. Expect hosting inspiration, seasonal roundups, favorite kitchen finds, behind-the-scenes recipe testing, and probably a few stories that have nothing to do with food - but somehow always end up back at the table.

Thank you for being here from the very beginning. It truly means the world.

Now enough table talk;

Let's make something delicious.

Emily
